This year I was inspired to make my own mincemeat for Christmas. I made it a couple of weeks before using it, although I think you could probably make it and use it on the same day.
Here’s the recipe for one jar of mincemeat:
1 chopped apple
a handful of sultanas (or other currants)
juice of 1 lemon
chopped up candied orange peel
2 tbsp brown sugar
1/2 a teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 a teaspoon mixed spice
1/2 a teaspoon nutmeg
a pinch of chilli powder
a healthy shot of sherry
And here’s the very simple method:
Mix everything together and put in a (sterilised) jar until needed.
